Newcastle Rescue & Consultancy Pty Ltd provide Safely Access the Rail Corridor who are required to access the rail corridor as part of their role. Our course is Nationally Recognised and is in accordance with relevant Codes of Practice.
This course will provide access to the ARTC rail network Only.
The Safely Access the Rail Corridor training course is structured to give learners the skills and knowledge required to safely enter and work around the rail corridor and danger zone with the permission of the access provider, in accordance with legislative and regulatory requirements. This training introduces participants to the key generic hazards of operating in a rail environment.
This is mandatory to work within the rail corridor.
Upon successful completion of all assessments, students will receive: Statement of Attainment (Nationally Recognised)

Topics covered in the course are as follows:
- Demonstrate how to safely access and work in the rail corridor.
- Recognise the danger zone.
- Identify and access a safe place.
- Identify the direction of approaching traffic.
- Apply minimum sighting distances.
- Maintain situational awareness to identify potential risks.
- Identify and explain the use of communication tools when working in the rail environment.
- Identify electrical safety hazards and controls used in the rail corridor.
- Identify unsafe situations within the rail environment.

Pre-requisites
It is recommended to hold a White card – Construction Induction as a requirement for Rail Industry Worker (RIW) Card. Newcastle Rescue & Consultancy can provide White Card Training.
Participants will undergo a LLN assessment at the commencement of the course. This course requires participants to have LLN levels to be able to:
• Read and understand English as well as understand work related safety signs and symbols.
• Read, understand and comply with workplace policies and procedures.
• Communicate and understand hazards.

Duration of Course
8 hours
Course Delivery
Training is delivered Face to Face.
PPE Required
Participants are to provide their own workplace appropriate gloves. Participants are to wear comfortable clothing and closed in shoes.
Physical Requirement – a participant must be in good health and medically fit for work.
Assessment
Participants will complete a theory based assessment and a practical based assessment to determine their competence.
The following assessment methods are used within this course:
• Theory assessment (closed book, conducted in class)
• Practical demonstration (conducted in a stimulated environment)
On successful completion of the Safely Access the Rail Corridor course, participants will be issued with a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment.
