This unit of competency CPCSIL3001 – Work with products and materials containing crystalline silica, specifies the skills and knowledge required to work with products and materials containing crystalline silica (CS) and respirable crystalline silica (RCS).
Pre-requisites
CPCCWHS2001 Apply WHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry
Duration of course is 8 hours for both units above or if already have the prerequisite then 4 hours.
The unit includes preparing for and identifying tools and equipment, including personal protective equipment (PPE) and respiratory protective equipment (RPE) to be used while working with products and materials containing CS.
The unit also covers the review of working with products and materials containing CS.
Worksites may be in factory or workshop settings or commercial and residential settings, and/or construction sites, including demolition sites.
Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements may apply to this unit. Relevant work health and safety (WHS) state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm jurisdictional requirements.

- Perform work including Inspect worksite, locate services, assess hazards and apply risk controls, including required signage and barricades.
- Perform maintenance activities and clean-up of work area.

Course Delivery
Training is delivered Face to Face. All training handouts supplied.
PPE Required
Participants are to wear comfortable clothing and closed in shoes.
Assessment
On successful completion of the Silica exposure training course, participants will be issued with a Certificate of Attainment.
Recognition of Prior Learning
All participants are offered the opportunity to apply for RPL. Please refer to the Student Handbook (located in resources) or phone 1300 356 686 for the procedure of how to apply.
USI
From 1st January 2015, it is a requirement when enrolling in a Nationally Recognised training course to have a Unique Student Identifier Number (USI). Certifications cannot be issued until the USI number has been provided and verified.
